These movie is about a kid from Alabama called Mathew, he likes to sing but his mother is going to rehabilitation meetings to get away from drugs and his father is in the army. One day his father gets a call to go to Iraq for duty he and his mom don't want Mathew's dad to leave because they don't know what their going to do with out him but he has to go because he been in the army is how they got the house where their living. Mathew makes songs in his room with his computer and sends some of them to his dad in Iraq but in the song he leaves a part for him to freestyle. While back in Alabama Mathew goes to school but some kids make fun of him and want to beat him up but he runs and gets in a church and the father of the church doesn't let the kids do anything to Mathew. Mathew stays at the church and father Jonson lets him play the piano and finds out that he has a talent on music. When Mathew got home he saw his mom in the living room talking in the phone and he asks her whats going on, and his mom tells him that their going to lose the house. Mathew and his mom go live with his grandpa that doesn't like him because of the music he listens to. Father Jonson tells Mathew about this talent show. He tells his father when he talks to him but then his dad has to go.
